The boundaries of the ski areas are all marked, and within the boundaries the slopes are avalanche-controlled and patrolled.

China

China is growing as a ski-destination, with over 200 ski resorts across the country. And with the 2022 Winter Olympics set to happen in Beijing, resorts and ski-infrustructure will no doubt be receiving a lot of attention and upgrades over the next few years. The ski season is generally from Mid-December to Mid-March, but some resorts have a longer ski season, from Mid-November until Mid-April.

Finland is the ideal winter-destination, offering not just skiing and snowboarding, but a wide range of winter activities. Ski Season The winter season is long. In Northern Finland (Lapland), there is snow fall from November until May. In Southern and Central Finland, the snow season is from December to late March. In the Arctic Circle, the long days mean that you ski for 12 -14 hours in sunshine. Skiing is a popular pasttime in Finland, and most Finns know how to ski. There are plenty of ski schools, and all ranges of experience will find suitable slopes.

Although a handful of ski resorts are open from mid-November, the majority of French Alps Ski Resorts open from mid-December until mid-April.

Germany's ski resorts are smaller and more traditional than elsewhere in Europe, with lots of character. Germany hosted the 1936 Winter Olympics and 2011 World Ski Championships. Munich, Germany's third biggest city, is within easy reach of a number of resorts which means going skiing can be combined with a city break.

The Himalayan Mountain Range has an abundance of snow from January - March, making India a up-and-coming ski destination. It should be noted that the border between India and Pakistan has been under dispute between the 2 countries, however the area has been in relative peace since 2002. Check the local political situation before finalising travel plans to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Japan ski season is from mid/end December until late March/ early April. Some ski resorts open as early as October with the help of snow machines, but acutal snow fall usually doesn't occur until the end of December. Peak ski season in Japan is from mid Janaury - late February.

Russia has been growing in popularity as a ski destinations since the Sochi winter olympics. Ski resorts in Russia are varied enough for all skill levels, but their high altitude and steep slopes are well suited to intermediate and advanced skiiers. The infrastructure of the ski resorts is not of the same standards as other European resorts, but huge improvements are being made as popularity grows. Ski Season: December - April

Ski resorts in Turkey are modern, affordable and easily accessible. Turkey's snow record is excellent with many of the resorts at high altitude. During the normal winter conditions the height of the snow reaches approximately 3 meters, and covered with forests, the natural beauty of the mountainous areas is stunning.
